Who are they? They are Proactiva Open Arms, a NGO from Badalona (Barcelona, Spain). They are dedicated to save lives in the sea. At the beginning of September they decided to move to the Island of Lesbos to help the refugees that arrive to the Greek coast.
They have a permanent team of 14 volunteers, emergency rescue professionals, working in two arrival points on the Island of Lesbos: Skala and Mitiline.
The journey through the sea is one of the hardest parts of the refugees trip. Their boats are very precarious. The risk of dying by drowning is very high.
Their team covers 17 km of the Lesbos coast by land and sea, helping the coming refugees (20 boats per day) to disembark safely.
Now their resources are running out and they need your collaboration in order to stay there. Right now there are 10 volunteers working in the area. They need to stay 15 days.
The cost for each volunteer is:
Flights: 600 €
Accommodation and meals: 22€ x día = 330 €
Equipment: 200€
Help them stay; they don’t want to go back home.
